Many students stress over midterms only to survive and immediately dread final projects. As a tutor, an instructor, and a friend I've been guiding students through the worst of their writing fears for the past ten years, and I wanted to write a book that would address the most basic misunderstandings about academic writing. This is a short, supplemental text for anybody who wants to be a stronger writer in high school, college, or beyond.  

When Roman Emperors returned home victorious from battle, they marched underneath an enormous structure called the Triumphal Arch.  For the Romans an arch symbolized civilization, for on the support of the arch they built their finest edifices, which enabled them to build their empire.
